The youths of the Mano River Basin under the umbrella of the West African Youth Network (WAYN), have concluded a week-long peace and security conference, with emphasis on the pending Guinean election, in Sierra Leone with over 50 young people from Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Ivory Coast participating.
At the close of the conference, delegates agreed through a ten (10) count resolution aimed at avoiding conflict in Guinea, and as well consolidating peace in the MRU Basin, to travel to Guinea to hold talks with stakeholders in the Guinean government, the two political leaders in the run-off-election, and members of the diplomatic circle.
Meanwhile, the five (5) men Liberian youth delegation is appealing to President Sirleaf for her sponsorship to enable them travel to Guinea on September 15, 2010 for four days.
The youths of the MRU under the banner of the West African Youth Network, have commended Madam Sirleaf for her current engagement with the Guinean Authority as well as State actors, especially those in the pending run-off election. Madam Sirleaf recent visit to Guinea is a manifestation that she, as Chairman of the MRU, is concerned about Guinea being stable and or peaceful.
In conclusion, the MRU Youth Initiative is calling on all parties in Guinea, especially the youth, to refrain from tension and stick to the democratic principle which is the recipe for peace.
