Nigeria: Ondo Gives Workers Till December to Become Computer Literate

Akure — Ondo State Governor Olusegun Mimiko yesterday said all civil servants in the state on Grade Level12 and above who are yet to be computer literate before December this year will be sacked

Mimiko who gave the directive while declaring open the First Ondo State Council on Information meeting in Akure yesterday, directed the office of the Head of Service to urgently start the compilation of all categories of the affected workers.

This, he noted, was being done to prepare their letters of retirement.

The governor maintained that there was no way he could cope with such type of workers in the present jet age, stressing, " Since the world is now a global technological village, harbouring computer illiterates as senior bureaucrats would be a disservice to the people of the state".

He added that the workers had failed to comply despite the opportunity given to them by government to be computer literate.

"The December deadline for all Grade Level 12 officers in the state civil service to get computer education or leave the service for new set of vibrant graduates who are well equipped, stands", he said. He wondered why some civil servants in top cadre failed to utilise the opportunities at their disposal in the past to get the required computer training which he said, would assist them to do their jobs more efficiently.
