Angola: WHO Official Calls for Drug Resistant TB Combat

Luanda — The World Health Organisation (WHO) Africa Regional Director, Angolan Luís Gomes Sambo, Wednesday in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, urged for the need to really assess the level of emergency and dissemination of multidrug resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) and X-drug resistant tuberculosis (XDR-TB), that keeps posing serious hindrances to the African people's health.

Luís Gomes Sambo said that between January 2007 and December 2009, 33 member States recorded 22,032 multi resistant cases, being eight others have reported 1,501 ultra-resistance.
