Angola: Minister Highlights Defence Institute's Commitment

The Angolan minister of National Defence, Cândido dos Santos Van-Dúnem, Wednesday in Luanda stressed the National Defence Institute (IDN)'s commitment to the promotion of training and pedagogical actions across the country, in various public and private institutions and society in general.

Cândido dos Santos Van-Dúnem was delivering a speech at the opening of the IDN 13th anniversary.

The minister said that the Defence Institute, which is under the National Defence Ministry (MINDEN), is a specialised organ tasked with promoting study, research and education on national defence, focussed on the military society.

In order for this goal to be attained, he underlined, NDI relies on support of all National Defence Ministry's organs and Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), as well as on partnership with other State and privately-owned institutions.

Cândido dos Santos also pledged that the Defence Ministry will continue creating necessary conditions for an excellent work, that will outline strategies and boost a comprehensive participation of all society in National Defence tasks.

Chaired by the Defence minister, Cândido dos Santos Van-Dúnem, the ceremony opening the celebrations of the 13th anniversary of National Defence Institute brought together vice-ministers of National Defence for National Defence Policy, Gaspar Rufino dos Santos, and for Material Resources, Salviano de Jesus Sequeira.

Also attending the event were the acting chief of General Staff of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), Geraldo Sachipengo Nunda, chiefs of General Staff of the three branches (Army, Navy and Air Force), IDI director general, brigadier Armindo Bravo da Rosa "Kamaka", generals, admirals and MPs of the 2nd Commission of the National Assembly.

The National Defence Institute was founded on September 1, 1997.
