Nigeria: FCTA Wants Child Pornography Outlawed

The FCT Minister of State, Retired Navy Captain Caleb Olubolade Tuesday said there is the need to outlaw child pornography in line with the provisions of the Child Right's Act.

The minister, who spoke at the 'National Conference on the Convention on the Rights of the Child' in Abuja, advocated that defaulters of such acts be prosecuted to serve as deterrent to others.

Represented by Mrs. Hannatu D. Atar, director of FCT Gender Development Department, the minister noted that the protection and upbringing of a child is a collective responsibility of the parents, teachers and government.

He said the FCT Administration recently resuscitated the Child Right's Implementation Committee in line with the provisions of the Child Right's Act, warning that any body found wanting will be prosecuted.

The minister assured that the FCTA will continue in its fight against commercial sex workers in the territory, adding that street beggars, hawkers, physically challenged children will be provided with the opportunity to achieve basic education.

While commending the organisers of the event, the minister promised that government will continue to support any effort geared towards liberating vulnerable children.
