Nigeria/Madagascar: Lumumba Wants Ambitious Eagles for Madagascar

Former NFF presidential aspirant, Mr. Lumumba Dah Adeh, has called on Super Eagles handlers to ensure that only young and ambitious players are used for Sunday's Africa Cup of Nation's qualifier against Madagascar.

The Super Eagles will start their Nation's Cup campaign with the first leg qualifying match against the national team of Madagascar on Sunday at the UJ Esuene Stadium Calabar.

Speaking to Trustsports yesterday, the former House of Representative member said if the Eagles are to beat their opponents convincingly on Sunday, only players who are young and thirsty for results should be given the opportunity to represent the country.

He added that if Nigeria is to qualify for the 2011 Nations Cup without the usual permutations, the match against Madagascar must be won convincingly to set the tone for other matches that are to come.

The proprietor of Jos City Raiders FC however warned Eagles against underrating their opponents as he said there are no more minnows in African football.

He said he does not believe so much in the talk about giving opportunity to local players, as he explained that there is no difference between local and foreign players because in most cases players who are celebrated as home based players join the foreign legion at the slightest opportunity.

He maintained that instead of paying too much attention to the issue of local players, any player, whether local or foreign who has good enough to represent the country should be given a chance.

"I do not believe in the talks about giving the local players a chance. Whether local or foreign, it does not matter. What matters is selecting the best players to represent the country.

"I want the team's handlers to give more opportunity to players who are hungry for good results. We have young and thirsty players both on the local and foreign scene. Such players must be considered, if we are to beat Madagascar", he stated.

Lumumba also suggested that the Nations Cup qualifiers should be seen as a golden opportunity to re-organize the senior national team.

He noted that since international friendly matches are always hard to come by, the NFF must not fail to make maximum use of the 2010 Nations Cup qualifiers.

"In addition, I want to say that 2011 Nations Cup qualifying matches should be used to re-organize the Super Eagles. Nigerians are talking about re-organizing the team and so this is the much needed opportunity", he said.

Lumumba said in Calabar, the Eagles will not lack the support to soar above their opponents on Sunday.
