Former president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN) yesterday said the decision of INEC concerning the 2011 governorship election was right.
"INEC is right. Ekiti government can issue any statement, law is law and it must be followed. I know there was a case in the Federal High Court in Lagos where it was ruled that Oni's tenure expires in 2011. Right now, I don't know whether he has appealed against it. But this is good," he stated
Also, Olisa Agbakoba (SAN) said "INEC is right on this. There is no argument over this. The state is due over for another election even without new electoral Act. What happened in Ekiti is different from other states where election would not be held," he said.
Meanwhile, spokesman of the Action Congress of Nigeria, Ekiti State, Yemi Adaramodu, described INEC's pronouncement as a major success for the judiciary and INEC.
"We believe the judiciary will still save Ekiti with an expected justice at the appeal Court despite the fact that we are prepared for the January election. However, our party is delighted that misrule is coming to an end. We took the matter to court with the belief that the rule of law will definitely prevail. We believe that the PDP cannot get all things through the back door."
