Kigali — The government's procurement agency, Rwanda Public Procurement Authority (RPPA) has suspended 33 companies from bidding for public tenders for periods ranging from one year to three years.

Speaking to The New Times yesterday, the authority's legal officer Clement Murwanashyaka said that the companies were banned for having poorly executed public tenders.

"For example, some companies were contracted to build classrooms in Rutsiro and Rubavu and they used inappropriate or insufficient materials. The walls of the classrooms are already cracking after only a year," Murwanashyaka said.

He added that some firms abandoned the sites before completing the work that they had been contracted for.

According to Murwanashyaka, companies that forwarded forged documents during the bidding process have been suspended for two years. Those that collaborated with procurement officials to further their interests were banned for three years.
