Somalia: Senior Somaliland Security Officer Killed in Las Anod

A senior security official in the northern self-proclaimed state of Somaliland was killed by Gunmen outside his house in the eastern town of Las Anod late on Tuesday, Radio Garowe Report.

"Six armed gunmen fired on Colonel Abdi Esse Nur when he came out of his home and was entering his car, Sool regional governor, Abdillahi Jama Dirie, told reporters, adding "He died on the spot."

Colonel Abdi Esse Nur, regional commander of the custodian corps in Sool region was killed and his two bodyguards were injured by unknown gunmen. No group claimed responsibility.

However, Police in Las Anod have arrested seven suspects in connection with the killing of the commander.

The former British colony declared independence from Somalia in 1991 but has not been recognized internationally as a sovereign state despite enjoying relative stability.
