The leadership of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party moved yesterday to douse the tension between it and governors elected on its platform over allegation that the National Working Committee was favourably disposed to President Goodluck Jonathan picking its presidential ticket.
The National Organising Secretary of the party, Prince Uche Secondus, while denying the insinuation, said that there was no gang up against the governors elected on the platform of the party in favour of President Goodluck Jonathan.
The PDP Governors ' Forum is contemplating supporting one of the governors to contest the party's presidential ticket. The governor of Kwara State, Dr. Bukola Saraki, is believed to be interested in vying for the party's presidential ticket.
The Northern Union, an umbrella organisation of politicians from the northern divide, led by Dr. Olusola Saraki, had thrown its support behind the aspiration of the governor of Kwara State. PDP also clarified the delay in the release of its guidelines and timetable for the nomination and election of candidates for the 2011 general elections.
Prince Secondus said that the party was waiting on the Independent National Electoral Commission to release the elections guidelines, which would serve as a guide for the party's guidelines. The party had tentatively fixed September 11 as the date for the commencement of its primaries.
Secondus said that the party is yet to hold meetings to discuss its guidelines and the sequence of its primary elections.
