Abuja — Against wide-spread speculation that the executive board of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) will after yesterday's inaugural meeting to usher in a new board, members of the executive committee has thrown the Eagles' job wide open. Arising from their first meeting, the board rather agreed to advertise the vacant position of the Super Eagles coaching job to be filled by October 1.
President of the federation, Alhaji Aminu Maigari, said the appointment of the Super Eagles coach must not be a thing to be done in a hurry. "This is not a decision to be taken in a hurry. We want to throw it open to other good coaches because we want to engage a coach that will help rebrand the Eagles."
The executive committee also dissolved all standing committees with a promise to put in place new ones soon in line with the federation's drive for a better NFF.
The federation boss also said elections into local governments and state football associations will hold in December, while the September 25 Nigeria Premier League (NPL) commencement date has been suspended to enable the NFF and the NPL iron out outstanding issues regarding the emergence of Davidson Owumi as NPL chairman.
The board thanked the government for ensuring an enabling environment for the last election with a promise that the federation will focus more on the development of the game from the grassroots.
