Nigeria: New Super Eagles Coach to Emerge October 1

The Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) yesterday announced that the appointment of a new Chief Coach for the Super Eagles will be made on October 1.

The Federation, in a communiqué after its first meeting in Abuja, and signed by a member of its Executive Committee, Barrister Chris Green, said the position will be advertised in order to get a credible tactician to tinker the team.

Before now, former U-20 and UI-23 handler Samson Siasia was in the lead among those interested in taking over from Amodu Shaibu, by the former Executive Committee said the new coach would emerge after its election.

Also yesterday, the Executive Committee resolved to conduct elections into the states and Local Government Area Councils Football Associations by December this year.

While promising to focus on developmental football, the Committee also agreed to suspend the commencement of the Nigeria Premier League on September 25 till further notice.

The meeting which was attended by all the elected Executive Committee members, stated that the kick off of the new Premier League season would wait until the resolution of all outstanding issues relating to the league and its board in order to ensure smooth operation.

"The vacant position of teh Super Eagles Chief Coach will be advertised and filled by 1st October, 2010, while elections in the states and Local Government Area Councils Football Associations will be conducted in December.

"The Executive Committee has also suspended the commencement of the 2010/2011 Nigeria Premier League season earlier slated for September 25 until further notice, this is to ensure that all outstanding issues relating to the league and the league board are resolved to ensure smooth take off of the new league season", the communiqué stated.

Similarly, the Committee dissolved all standing committees set up by the former Executive Committee, pledging to follow due process, transparency and accountability in the conduct of its affairs.

Finally, the Committee condemned recent racial attack on Super Eagles attacker, Osaze Odemwingie by fans of Locomotiv Moscow, his former Russian club and pledged to start a global campaign against Russia in that regard.
