Uganda: Mwesigwa in Lead

Kampala — Just when John Basabose had been virtually perceived as the day one leader of the Uganda Golf Open, Brian Mwesigwa who played in the latter groups arrived at the clubhouse with four under par 68.

Mwesigwa who has had a praiseworthy season carries a one stroke lead over Basabose to the second round of the tournament today. Chatty Mwesigwa was unusually humble despite leading a field of 60 golfers in the 70th edition of Uganda premier amateur golf event that ends on Sunday. "It's always a pleasure to be in the lead but this is just one day. I have a three-day battle ahead of me. I have a long way to but my competitors have a tough battle," Mwesigwa remarked.

The 19-year-old Emma Opio, seeking to rekindle the legendary late Sadi Onito family glory got off to a promising start-firing two under par 70 to stay in contention for the coveted title.

"My target was 68 but I fell short by two strokes. I will aim to score 66 in the second round. remains the same I will improve my score," a jovial Opio stated. r Jolly Herman Mutaawe had every reason to smile after firing four under par 68 to top the sh10m professional event of the Uganda Open at Uganda Golf Club yesterday. Mutaawe aiming to win the sh1m top prize is just one stroke clear of Vincent Byamukama and Brian Toolit tied in second place.
