Jos — The Plateau State police command has warned those peddling rumours that there would be fresh attacks in Jos after the Ramadan period to desist from such falsehoods or face arrest.
Police Commissioner Mr. Ikechukwu Aduba yesterday debunked such rumours and urged citizens of the state to go about their lawful businesses without fear and to report any suspicious movement to security agents for prompt action. He expressed concern over the increasing rumour of attack in the state, saying security agents were working round the clock to trace the source of the rumour while machinery had been put in place to nip in the bud, any possible upheaval.
Aduba said, "Recently, I was with the leadership of the CAN and JNI and not a single Christian or Muslim mentioned any plan of attack but they were rather happy that peace is gradually returning to the state."
According to him, with the current peace being enjoyed in the state, businesses are fast picking up and as such, the Command would do everything possible to sustain the peace.
The commissioner disclosed that the Special Task Force arrested one Sadip Nayaya with a locally made pistol and handed him over to the police and he confessed that he belongs to a gang of three but that the other two were at large.
The commissioner said a midnight patrol team acted on information and stormed a criminal hideout at Dorowa and Anglo 'D', arresting one Michael Sunday, a student of the Bukuru Technical College while two other accomplices escaped but one locally made revolver pistol and six rounds of 7.65mm live ammunition and two handsets were recovered from the hideout.
In a related development, a team of detectives acting on information arrested a gang of suspected burglars.
