Nigeria: Family of Slain Cop Gets N.5 Million Lifeline From Yobe Govt

Damaturu — The Yobe State government yesterday donated N500, 000 to the family of Constable Barde Emos, the policeman killed at the private residence of Governor Ibrahim Gaidam about 10 days ago. The acting Head of Service, Alhaji Madu Ajiri, who presented the money to Mrs Grace Emos, wife of the slain policeman, expressed the condolences of Governor Ibrahim Gaidam and the people of the state over the loss.

"Our coming here is to commiserate with you over the death of your husband while in active service. It is really unfortunate but our prayer is that God will grant him eternal rest," Ajiri said. He said the money was not a "compensation" but an attempt to assist the family during their trying period.

Mrs. Emos thanked the state government for the visit and the financial assistance. It would be recalled that some unidentified gunmen moving on motorcycle recently attacked one of the private residences of the governor and killed Constable Emos.

Mamman Sule, the state Police Commissioner had shortly after the shooting said the actual mission of the attackers was not known. "Personally, I feel it was a reprisal by remnants of the Boko Haram sect", he said.
