Nigeria: 'Only Abuja Indigene Can Truly Represent Residents'

The immediate past Bwari Area Council Chairman, Isah Dara, said yesterday that the major reason for his aspiration to the House of Representatives is to correct the injustice done to the original Abuja indigenes and Nigerians living in the Federal Capital Territory, adding that it is only a true son of the territory that can make a case for them.

He said government in the past had made it optional that anybody who wanted to remain in FCT as an indigene could remain.

"That is why many of us have remained and there are many things the Federal Government is supposed to do for the original indigenes and I will raise those issues when I get to the National Assembly for the benefit of all," he vowed.

He said residents have witnessed a lot of discrimination against the original indigenes of the FCT since the territory's creation, adding that no indigene has ever smelt the position of junior minister or permanent secretary and are equally not allowed to elect a mayor.

Isah Dara revealed that his campaign organization is working very hard to mobilize his supporters on the need to come out to register so that they can vote during the coming elections.
