Nigeria: NANS Plan Protests Against Jonathan for Presidency

Lafia — The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Zone C, yesterday said it would stage a protest in Abuja, to prevent President Goodluck Jonathan from contesting the presidential election next year.

The co-ordinator of NANS in the zone, comprising of Nasarawa, Benue and Plateau States, Kassim Mohammed Kassim, told newsmen in Lafia, that youths of the zone would not support Jonathan for president because he has not shown any love for the zone, adding that the appointment of people from the state as junior ministers was disrespectful to the zone.

"President Jonathan must not contest the presidential election in 2011. He was the one, who announced that there will be an increase in workers' salaries, and that announcement led to increase in the prices of goods, yet nothing has been done till date.

"Nigerians are suffering. President Jonathan has no regards for the zone. All the ministers from the zone are junior ministers, so I see no reason why we should rally round him for 2011," he added.

He said the rally would involve Students' Union Governments (SUG) leaders and youth groups of the zone, including Abuja.
