Nigeria: Lugbe Residents Lament Slow Pace of Work on Airport Road

Abuja — Residents of Federal Housing Estate, Lugbe have called on the construction company rehabilitating Airport road, Julius Berger PLC to speedily increase their work pace to avert traffic jam and constant breakdown of vehicles as being experienced presently on the road.

This, they said has resulted to series of accidents since the construction work commenced last year, leading to severe injuries on the victims and at times loss of lives.

LEADERSHIP investigation revealed that traffic jam on the road has taken another dimension especially this rainy season as commuters were usually held on the road between 4.30 in the evening and 8.30 at nights.

A cross section of residents and commuters who spoke with Leadership believed that the federal government had pumped huge amount of money on for the road construction, and so the need for them to increase their work speed should be of utmost importance.

Mr. Cosmas Onyedikachi, a taxi driver plying enroute Lugbe- Gwagwalada road appealed to Julius Berger to hasten the construction work because it serves as linkage to many states apart from FCT.

He recalled that drivers do spend huge sums of money to fix their broken vehicles resulting from the bad nature of the road and the heavy traffic.

Mrs. Anabel Frank, a resident of the area said "though the construction work is in progress, it requires more team work to rid the road from hold up that occasionally result to wreckage on the vehicles.

She cautioned road users to reduce over speeding and dangerous overtaking that may lead to accident.
