In a bid to rid the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) of crime, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) said it has convicted 81 persons between January to August 2010 who were caught in possession of illegal and hard drugs.
The drug ranges from Cannabis weighing 1197.765kg, Cocaine 40.5gms, Heroine 85.4gms and other illegal substances weighing 3.2gms.
In a chat with Leadership, FCT commander at the agency, Mrs. Omolade Omole, further revealed that 11 drug addicts were admitted while 10 were treated and rehabilitated.
She frowned at a situation where some individuals in Delta and Edo states have refused to engage themselves in meaningful business rather turn to planting Indian hemp, adding that plans are underway to introduce other economic and cash crops that will earn them a living instead of engaging in crimes.
Scoring the Judiciary in dispensing justice, she said "they are trying their best but they need to do more as according to her, the drug barons who are looking for a way out even go to the extent of hiring the services of lawyers to defend them despite their wrong doings.
Omole, who lamented that more drug cases were pending in various courts admonished the public to give vital information to the command to enable them track down drug barons.
This, she said is in line with the saying that one is not guilty until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction as the judges have roles to play by assisting the command expedite trials in court.
She enjoined Nigerians to shun trafficking and consider the lives of their families that stands at risk when arrested.
