Uganda: World Vision in Child Health Campaign

World Vision and Uganda Child Rights NGO Network (UCRNN) have started a campaign about Child Health Now. The campaign recently launched at Hotel Africana is to be used to craft a policy on issues of child health rights. The Executive Director Uganda Child Rights NGO Network, Stella Ayo, said Child Health Now, was handed over to the Director General of Health Services, Dr. Kenya Mugisha.

Ayo says the campaign is to help nations attain millennium development goal (MDG) 4, which hopes to reduce death of children younger than five by two thirds by the year 2015. The campaign's first focus is reducing incidences of malaria and improving nutrition among children and mothers.

The statement was derived from the views of children, community members, health workers and local government representatives about children's health in eleven districts over six weeks from July.

The campaign has so far covered the districts of Bundibugyo, Rakai, Mpigi, Kibaale, Hoima, Nebbi, Gulu, Soroti, Butaleja and Mukono.
