Liberia: Education Ministry Liable

AllAfrica aggregates reports from Africa's news media. This is an article from the Liberian press. It is not a report by AllAfrica.

A Liberian educator, Mr. John Nester Randall says the government’s compulsory primary education was not making any impact on the life of many students. And this, he blamed it on the lack of creativity by the Ministry of Education (MOE).

Mr. Randall said the number of children that were not in school last year, clearly shows that the compulsory primary education is not working.

Mr. Randall, a former employee of the National Port Authority (NPA), made the statement over the week-end during the official closing exercise of a Pre-school Learning Program. The Program was sponsored by Mr. John Randall.

200 students graduated from the first phase of the program.

Teachers of the program were drawn from the Lakpazee Youth for Progressive Action.

The educator who described the program as a “fulfillment, “because, he said, he was delivering on promises made to the Liberian people especially those in District #4.

“I am delighted that at this time our children are beneficiaries of this program,” Mr. Randall indicated. He averred further that the provision of education to the less fortunate children remained at the centre of his developmental agenda.

“I will make sure that resources from this program are provided to meet the needs of the kids, our future leaders,” The former NPA worker revealed. Mr. Randall added “he would strive to provide affordable, accessible and quality education to all children in district #4.”

He also blamed the failure of the compulsory primary education program on the lack of schools building in many places in the country, particularly in Monrovia.

In an apparent reference to his quest to contest for the District# 4 Representatives slot in the 2011 general and presidential elections, Mr. Randall said “My people have told me that this time they were ready for me to provide them with sound leadership, which that will be based on transparency, accountability and development,” he indicated.

At the same time, Mr. Randall applauded the Lakpazee Youth for Progressive Action for sharing in what he termed as his vision, to educate youth in the country. “If the country could produce more people like you, then, we will build a better and good foundation for this country,” He concluded.
