Several inmates at the Zwedru Correction Palace are appealing to President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf to grant them Executive Clemency.

Some of the prisoners were convicted for crime ranging from Murder, Rape, Arm Robbery, Theft of Property, and Attempted Murder to simple assault, while others have not been convicted nor gone through court trial.

James Weah is one of those convicted for Theft of Property, "It is my girl friend who put me in this problem. She took me to the court saying that I stole my own money that I gave her to make business only because she misbehaved and I beat on her," Weah told reporters.

Stephen Altoe, a pre-trial detainee also explained his own story to our reporter. "I was brought because they say I throw rock over people zinc, but it is not true. I was on my way to Monrovia from River Gee when group of people jumped on me in fight for reason that I throw rock over their zinc. They arrested and charged me with aggravated assault and brought me straight to Zwedru Correction Palace. Since then, I have not been investigated or taken to court," he explained.

Meanwhile inmates, some of the inmate who shave spent over three to four years at the Zwedru Correction Palace said they have learned enough since their incarceration and wants President Sirleaf to forgive them.

Some of the inmates furthered that they were mentally disturbed during the commission of the crimes against other peaceful citizens and the state.

According to them, they are now refined and normal like any other Liberian and therefore want the government of Liberia to reunite them with their families.

Inmates noted that they are ready to positively contribute to the society and also take part in next year's general elections.

118 persons are currently being detained at the Zwedru Correction Palace for various offenses. Two of them are women.

President Sirleaf recently pardoned three female detainees who were accused of witchcraft activities from the same Prison.

Under the Constitution, the President has the power to grant Executive Clemency to prisoners.
