The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has arrested a headman of Chasango Village in Kazembe's area in Kawambwa District for drug trafficking.
DEC spokesperson John Nyawali said in a statement yesterday that Albert Chibuye, 71, was arrested after conducting a search at his house where he was found with more than four kg of cannabis concealed in dry banana leaves.
Mr Nyawali said that headman Chasango was arrested together with 20 other people from the surrounding areas who were found with different quantities of cannabis. The commission advised traditional leaders to positively inspire their subjects by avoiding drug trafficking and drug abuse activities.
Meanwhile, two employees of Toka-Leya Lodge in Livingstone have been arrested for planting drugs in an effort to implicate their supervisor. He said that Ernest Hakantu, a welder was arrested together with Matengu Katema a general worker after they were captured on CCTV cameras planting drugs with intentions to frame their boss.
The two hid more than 23 grammes of cannabis in their supervisor's yard after they were reported to the police for allegedly stealing some money meant for an orphanage.
More than 73 people were arrested in the last four days for trafficking in various quantities of cannabis with a total weight of 443 kg.
