Luanda — More than one thousand Angolan athletes were engaged in various competitions abroad from December 2009 to July this year, Angop learned Wednesday in Luanda. The information was released by the national director of Sports, Raimundo Ricardo, during a press conference.
According to the official, sending the athletes abroad required spending with flight tickets, accommodation, food and training, amounting to an average Usd 3,500 per person. He explained during the period in respect, the Angolan Handball Federation used six national teams, against the one previously planned.
The official said that out of a population estimated at 17 million inhabitants, the number of Angolans practising sports stands at 0,15 percent.
