Zimbabwe: Harare Sports Club to Host ITF Junior Circuit

Harare — Harare Sports Club host the International Tennis Federation circuit that starts tomorrow with six teams taking part.

The tournament is scheduled to run from September 5 to 7. Participants will battle it out in the Under-12 age group in both boys' and girls' categories. The countries that will take part include Botswana, Swaziland, Mauritius, Namibia, Malawi and Zimbabwe.

The Zimbabwe Under-12 boys' team features Julius Mutetwa, Keith Mwashita, Alosha Chikanda and Mark Chigaazira, while the girls' team has Keren Muswere, Karen Machisa, Rumbidzai Ugaro and Rufaro Chireva. Coach Richmore Murape yesterday said the Zimbabwean team was ready for the big event.

"Our players are ready for the tournament and from the look of things at their first training camp today they have a chance of reaching the finals," he said. Singles' events will be a maximum 32 draw, if possible, with eight seeded players each receiving a bye into the second round.

The singles will be conducted on a feed-in consolation basis whereby each player will play one singles match each day resulting in ranking from one to 32 at the end of the tournament.

Points will be awarded in each singles events as follows -

1st 300pts 2nd 200pts

3rd 150pts 4th 120pts

5th 90pts 6th 80pts

7th 70pts 8th 60pts

9th 50pts 10th 45pts

11th 40pts 12th 35pts

13th 30pts 14th 25pts

15th 20pts 16th 15 pts

17th 0pts 18th 5pts
