THE Kitwe City Council has finally started the process of allocating stands to marketeers in the newly-constructed European Union (EU) funded markets in the district.
Public relations officer, Dorothy Sampa in an interview yesterday said the council had started with sensitisation meetings aimed at equipping and preparing marketeers to be allocated stands.
Ms Sampa, who was giving an update on the programme of commissioning the three markets in the district, said the trading facilities were ready for use.
"Right now we are conducting sensitisation meetings at Nakadoli Market preparing marketeers for the new market," Ms Sampa said.
She said all was set of the commissioning of the markets and the council was only waiting for the Ministry of Local Government and Housing to do the exercise.
And Ms Sampa has assured traders at the old Nakadoli Market that they would be allocated stands.
She said the new structure had enough space to accommodate the traders at the old market.
Ms Sampa said the council had already counted the traders operating at the old market, and that a special criterion for the allocation of stands, particularly at Nakadoli, would be used.
