Kampala — An Information Communication Technology education expo is set to take place mid this month. According to Mr Alfred Maina Muthami, the Projects and Finance coordinator, ICT 4 Education Uganda Limited, the expo will take between September 16-17 at Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala.
He said the expo is aimed at having a "technology driven education system" in the country to achieve development.
"There is widespread belief that ICTs can and will empower teachers and learners, transforming teaching and learning processes from being highly teacher-dominated to student-centered," Mr Muthami told Education Guide on Saturday.
"This transformation will result in increased learning gains for students, creating and allowing for opportunities for learners to develop their creativity, problem-solving abilities, informational reasoning skills, communication skills, and other higher-order thinking skills." He said educational institutions need to ensure that the ICT vision is embraced from top to bottom, adding that they need to be equipped with the right knowledge and skills to enable them to use the technology effectively.
The expo that will attract government, students and private stakeholders in ICT, is aimed at fostering ICT awareness to all educational institutions, harness Information Technology products and services to the various stakeholders, provide platform for interaction and marketing for both stakeholder, further improvement of services by both service providers and showcase the potential in both InformationTechnology and Education sectors.
