Yenagoa — The Bayelsa State Governor, Chief Timipre Sylva weekend showed signs of high expectations towards the proposed two-day visit of the President,
Dr. Goodluck Jonathan to the state with a special interactive session with users of the online friendship page, Facebook, announcing the proposed commissioning of a modern hospital in the state to be known as Diete-Koki Memorial Hospital, just as a visit of the members of the Federated Correspondent Chapel of the State chapter of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) revealed a feeling of expectation by the kinsmen of the President towards his proposed visit and asked him to include a visit to his community in Otuoke area of Ogbia local government area of the state.
Governor Sylva, who has in the last few weeks interacted and answered questions on the policies and performance of his administration in the last few years, announced the proposed commissioning of the modern hospital in the and challenged those involved in the claim that his administration is not performing to come up with proofs.
In his words on Facebook, Governor Sylva announced that "Mr President will soon be commissioning the most modern hospital in Nigeria, in Bayelsa State. It is called Diete-Koki Memorial Hospital. Who says we are not delivering," the governor stressed. LEADERSHIP observation from the Facebook page of the Bayelsa Governor, showed a barrage of discussions and criticism on the efforts of the present administration in the state and a quick answer to issues raised by visitors to the page.
Meanwhile, the kinsmen of President Goodluck Jonathan are not hiding their feelings over the perceived long absence of their son since his elevation to the position of President following the demise of the late president, Umaru Musa Yar'Adua. Most of the youths and elders of the community, who spoke with the visiting members of the Federated Chapel of NUJ, said they are equally uncomfortable with his delay in declaring his 2011 presidential ambition.
A youth leader in the community, Comrade Adiabai Victor-Eze said though the politically inclined indigenes of the home community of the President have explained to an enlarged meeting of the people that president's long absence from Otuoke Community may be due to "his busy schedule" owing to the rising challenges of delivering the needed democracy dividends to the people of the country, the issue of his non-declaration which have however become thorny issues at this moment, that they want them resolved.
Comrade Adiabai, who is also chairman of National Council of Youths Presidents Forum, said his delay in declaring for Presidency in 2011 notwithstanding, the people of the community, the state and the South-South are ready to support him in all his political decisions.
He said "Nigerians have been clamoring for a good leader and not ruler, and we have gotten one, we should embrace the name and the person he's made of" and that "Nigerians should allow him to continue. Jonathan's coming to power is divine and he still has a lot to accomplish for the nation as the first South-Southerner to become president. We are telling all Nigerians that this is our chance, and he should be allowed to complete the Yar'Adua-led tenure."
