Kenya: VP Asks China to Help Effect Constitution

Nairobi — Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka has urged the Chinese Government and the National People's Congress to support the implementation of the new Constitution.

Mr Musyoka noted that the new Constitution devolves governance to counties, adding that there will be a lot of financial and infrastructural implications in its implementation.

The Vice-President made the remarks on Friday when he met Ms Chen Zhili, the Vice-Chairperson (Deputy Speaker) of China's NPC, who paid him a courtesy call at his Jogoo House office.

He noted that as Kenya enters a new legal dispensation, there was need to facilitate a massive economic upturn in order to realise the aspirations of the country of attaining a middle-income status by 2030.

Raise the numbers

Mr Musyoka called for more Chinese investments in infrastructural development, as well as hotel and manufacturing sectors.

"This means our friends from China should visit in large numbers as tourists in order to raise the numbers from the current 20,000 to a few millions," he added.

The VP applauded the growing relations between Kenya and China over the years, adding that China was the biggest partner in Africa.
