Uganda: HIV Patients Fail to Pay Medical Bills

Kampala — Two months after the Centres for Disease Control and prevention (CDC) in Tororo closed its home-based aid care programme, the former clients have said they cannot afford to pay medical bills.

About 1,000 HIV-positive clients from Busia, Tororo, Bugiri and Butaleja were benefiting from the programme. Under the programme, clients were supplied with drugs and their medical bills were paid.

When the programme ended, the clients were told to rejoin the Aids Support Organisation, but they said although TASO gave ARVs, it did not monitor and counsel clients as CDC was doing.
