Gambia: Jankey Samateh's Case Adjourned As State Counsel Fails to Appear in Court

Jankey Samateh a sister, to Sillaba Samateh has her case adjourned on Wednesday 1 September by Magistrate Abeke of Banjul Magistrate's Court due to the absence of both the state counsel M.B Abubacarr and the accused persons.

When the case was called both the state counsel and the accused persons were not present in court.

Magistrate Abeke told the defence that the state and the accused persons are yet to be in court; adding that the state should have been present in order to proceed with the matter. Lawyer Camara, counsel for the accused person said that the state is not in court that's why the accused is also not in court too.

The trial magistrate ruled that both the state and the accused are not in court and it is only the defence that is present in court.

The case was adjourned to 8 September 2010 but the presiding magistrate ordered for hearing notice to be issued to all parties.
