Nigeria: Eight Injured in Gwako Auto Crash

Eight passengers were seriously injured last Wednesday afternoon in a motor accident at Gwako village, on the outskirts of Gwagwalada.

The accident happened at about 3:13 pm and involved an 18-seater commercial bus with registration number XD 489 YAB, a Volkswagen Gulf car as well as a Jincheng motorcycle.

A witness, Usman Maliki, said the accident occurred when the Gulf driver who tried to avoid a pothole suddenly rammed into the commercial bus, while the motorcyclists coming from behind also rammed into the two vehicles. The mishap left eight persons, including the cyclist with serious injuries.

"The cyclist, who sustained head injury, was rushed to the hospital with other victims by road safety officials," the witness said.

Gwagwalada Federal Road Safety Commission's unit Commander Malam Ahmed Abubakar, said the victims are at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital.

In a related development, two motorcyclists Friday afternoon sustained injuries in an accident at Kwali market junction.

A witness said one of the cyclists, heading towards the market junction, made a sudden u-turn to pick a passenger and the other bike ram into him, resulting to both riders sustaining head injuries.

When contacted, Yangoji FRSC unit Commander, Umar Abdullahi, said the command was not informed about the accident.
