Zimbabwe/Liberia: Liberia to Unleash New King George

Zimbabwe must look out for Sekou Oliseh who seeks a fairytale debut for Liberian against the Warriors in a 2012 Afcon qualifier in Paynesville this afternoon.

The Warriors and Lone Star clash at the Samuel Kayon Doe Sports Complex as the two countries begin the long road to qualify for Gabon/Equatorial Guinea 2012. The CSKA Moscow midfielder Sekou is the 20-year-old nephew of former Super Eagles captain Sunday Oliseh.

Sekou is the best thing to happen to Liberian football after the one and only George Weah. Liberian football has been searching for a hero since Weah - the only African to win the Fifa Footballer of the Year award back in 1995 - hung his boots.

It seems like they have unearthed Weah's heir in the form of Sekou who confirmed his commitment to the Lone Star by snubbing a call up to Nigeria's Super Eagles last week.

The Russian-based midfielder was born to Liberian parents, but was adopted by Sunday's brother Churchill at a young age and moved to Nigeria.

In Nigeria he played for his home province side Ebedei before clinching a deal with Danish side Midtjylland in 2006.

He moved to CSKA Moscow in 2009 on a loan deal before making a permanent move to the Russian side this year.

The Liberian Football Association and Nigerian authorities have been involved in a tug-of-war for Sekou's services in the last few months.

The Liberians managed to convince the dribbling wizard to turn out for his home country and he turned down the chance to wear Nigeria's green and white strip.

The game against Zimbabwe would be Sekou's debut for the Lone Star, but despite that fact the Liberians regard him very highly.

Hundreds of Lone Star fans thronged Robert International Airport to welcome Sekou when he arrived from Russia last Tuesday to join the rest of his teammates.

At the team's first training session on Wednesday Antoinette Tubman Stadium was jam-packed as Liberians gathered to take a glimpse of Sekou for the first time.

Lone Star's Hungarian coach Bertalan "BB" Bisckie is yet to hand out squad numbers to his team, but thousands of number 10 jerseys with Sekou's name at the back have already been printed.

The jerseys are selling fast in Monrovia and the other parts of the country just to show how much belief everyone in Monrovia has in the CSKA Moscow midfielder. With his arrival the mood in the Lone Star's camp changed and they now fancy their chances against the Warriors.

Forward Dweh Allison said: "We must win and we will win, with the kind of players I see in the camp it's obvious that we will snatch the maximum three points. "Pressure is of course what we are facing right now and with focus we can defeat the nightmare that has engulfed the nation's football sector."

The Lone Star's fairytale can now only be complete if Sekou manages to lead the team to victory against the Warriors. The Warriors however have the chance of spoiling Sekou's homecoming by upsetting the Lone Star in their own backyard. Another player the Warriors must contain is newly crowned Lone Star captain Anthony Laffor.

The Supersport United midfielder was in top form as he helped the South African club clinch their third successive championship last season. Blessed with power, pace and skill Laffor is one player that can conjure the magic to penetrate solid defences. His threat coupled with that of Sekou should be the Warriors' main concern this afternoon.
