Luanda — The Egyptian ambassador to Angola, Alaa El-Din M. Kashef, Monday in Luanda, spoke of the need for reinforcement of diplomatic missions for dialogue, with a view to feasible solutions to conflicts in Africa.
Ambassador Kashef was speaking to Angop on peace and security in the African continent, particularly in the Great Lakes region. The diplomat said he is optimistic about the capacity of the African Union and of the international community that are directly involved in "this hard task of pacifying the zones still in conflict in Africa".
He recalled that Africa is enjoying a better environment of peace and stability than five years ago, but there is still need for an effort to end the conflicts in Darfur and in Somalia.
Commenting on the situation in the Great Lakes, the Egyptian diplomat said his country promotes a global peace policy, seeking to establish peace, security and stability in the whole Africa.
"Egypt is for peace and stability in the whole African continent. This is the principle which the Egyptian Government defends and will continue to defend at all international forums, both at African Union level and of the UN," he stressed.
He added that it is within this framework that Egypt has been making its contribution to peacekeeping missions under the United Nations.
