Uganda: Lightning Kills Six Children in Alebtong, Apac

Kampala — Lightning killed six pupils and destroyed property worth millions of shillings in Apac and Alebtong districts over the weekend. Joel Olute, the LC3 chairman of Abongomola sub-county in Apac, said at least four children were killed in his area on Saturday.

He identified the victims as Teddy Atino, 17, Jessica Akullu, 17, Monica Angom, 13, and Joe Ojok, 6, all pupils of Te-lela Primary School.

The lay reader of Alel Church of Uganda in Abongomola, Robert Alele, said efforts were being made to hold prayers in a bid to prevent such incidents from reoccurring. "It is unfortunate that we have lost children who could have taken over responsibility from us. We pray that their souls rest in peace," he said.

In Omoro sub-county in Alebtong district, residents are mourning the death of two children who were killed by lightning on Sunday. The Alebtong acting district Police commander, Peter Odur, identified the victims as Felix Oluma, 11, and Simpo Akao, 9.

The deceased, both pupils of Oburu Primary School, were children of Moses and Santa Odongo of Angeta village.
