East Africa: Pension Fraud Cause for Alarm

Irregularities in government systems concerning pension are fast becoming point of concern among civil servants.

In the UK, millions approaching retirement could be devastated by the worst pension payouts since records began. Despite saving the same amount of money into their pensions, they face the dire prospect of getting about half the income they would have received 15 years ago, according to research.

In Uganda, lecturers in Makerere University were on strike over the disappearance of their pension funds. One lecturer was amazed to find a mere 23000/= on his account after 40 years of service.

Since October 2009, no one has been paid retirement benefits. Its high time government sorted out this mess. its ruining the Universities image.
