Youngsters Stanley Okoro and Ahmed Musa have been praised after they made their full international debuts for Nigeria in Sunday's Africa Nations Cup qualifier against Madagascar.
"The two young players who we introduced into the game, Ahmed Musa and Stanley Okoro, did well in the match. That was why they were included in the team any way. They came in and they showed the stuff we had in mind before listing them in the team," Nigeria assistant coach, Alloy Agu, said. "We are looking forward to seeing this kind of performance from them in subsequent matches."
Both players were late substitutes as Nigeria laboured to a 2-0 home win at UJ Esuene Stadium in Calabar with league goal king Musa coming very close to even getting a goal when his shot from the right flank missed target narrowly. Goalkeeper trainer Agu told MTNFootball.com that they are satisfied with the three points they won against the Barea of Madagascar, while admitting that there is still a lot of work to be done on the team. "The first thing you have to look at in a game is winning the three points at stake and because of that I am happy about our victory over Madagascar despite not winning by a wide margin. But there is still a lot of work to do. We know that and considering the time, the schedules and when the players came into the camp, then I would say it was a good performance from the players. We have the three points and two goals. We are looking forward to doing much better in our coming match. Now that we are gradually rebuilding the team, Nigerians have to be very patient because with patience the result would surely come. We the coaches will do all we can to put the Super Eagles where they rightly belong. When you are rebuilding there is need to be patient and that is what I will advise Nigerians to be while we still give them the results they deserved."
