Eritrea: Cyclist Daniel Participating in Tour De L' Avenir Race

Asmara — Eritrean cyclist Daniel Teklehaimanot finished 32nd in the Tour de l' Avenir race being held in France. In the chronometer race conducted yesterday, cyclist Daniel crossed the finishing line in 9 minutes and 37 seconds.

In the race in which hundreds of cyclists from 20 countries are taking part, American cyclist Taylor Finne stood first followed by English and Australian cyclists.

It is to be noted that cyclist Daniel is participating for the second time in such big tournament conducted every year since 1961. Also in the similar race held in 2009, he managed to stand 6th thanks to the points he scored in the course of the 7 stages.

It is to be recalled that cyclist Daniel who followed a two-year training at the World Cycling Training Centre in Switzerland has signed contract to join the Swiss Chervelo Club as a professional cyclist.

Also in an article posted on September 1 under the title "Daniel's Dream", the Cycle Sport magazine said that Eritrean cyclist Daniel Teklehaimanot is the first black African cyclist who attained professional cycling standard.
