Lagos — The intention of this public communication is to passionately appeal to the governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, that he should put every machinery in motion so that the proscribed operational licence of the yet to take off university is restored. The university came into being at the twilight of the erstwhile Olusegun Agagu-led administration to provide an institution of higher learning in the south senatorial district of the state as it was the only district lacking a functional tertiary institution.
Ondo State University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa, if functional, will go a long way in taking care of the educational needs of the entire aspiring students of the state and other neighbouring states. Therefore, it is imperative that everything that needs to be done must be done so that Ondo State students who are competent and willing to pursue degrees in science and technology can do so without tears. Ultimately, the multiplier effects of this singular action on the economy of the state cannot be quantified since these would-be graduates are coming to contribute to the social-economic developments of the state.
It is true that the current global economic meltdown is taking its toll on the financial purse of the state, nothing is too big to secure the future of our potential Albert Einsteins, Thomas Edisons, Isaac Newtons, Kekules etc.
All hands must be on deck so that the academic future of the students is not melted just before they take off. It is our belief that the mercurial governor is working round the clock to make sure this is done. The people of the South Senatorial District are eagerly waiting for your intervention since this is the only heritage they have. One good turn deserves another.
Akinboyo Temidayo, Igbotako, Ondo State.
