Nigeria: Jonathan Harps on Education As Antidote to Crime

President Goodluck Jonathan said though his administration has placed priority in three areas - Electoral Reform, Power and the Niger Delta , it is still working to make progress in other areas.

In a posting on his Facebook page yesterday, Jonathan said that if Nigeria is to combat crime and other anti-social activities effectively, young Nigerians must be educated.

"I take seriously the responsibility to prepare the future generation for leadership because I have become what I am because of education," Jonathan said, adding that education is very important to make young Nigerians employable when they come of age.

"For instance, Government has just ordered books on Mathematics, Science and English Language to be distributed freely to public primary schools nationwide."

He said with sound education, a life of crime will not hold much attraction for the young Nigerians.
