Several incumbents in eastern Uganda have lost their seats to new entrants in the race for NRM party flag bearers. The minister without portfolio, also NRM deputy secretary, Ms Dorothy Hyuha, lost to Ms Celinah Nebanda who scored 46, 323 votes against the minister's 15, 276 votes for Butaleja Woman MP bid. The Butaleja chairman, Mr Richard Waya lost his bid to Mr Joseph Muyonjo after getting 16,548 votes against his rival's 30,527.
In Mbale, the minister of state for housing, Mr Michael Werikhe, beat Mr Paul Wetaya for Bungokho South MP seat. Meanwhile, in Bukwo, Mr Wilson Manjara scored 27,904 votes and ousted incumbent Bartille Toskin who polled 21,909 votes.
In Manafwa, Woman MP Sarah Netalisire lost to Ms Rose Mutonyi and in Bubulo East, incumbent George William Wopuwa lost to Mr Simon Mulongo. Incumbent Yeko Arapkissa lost his bid to Abdi Kisos Chemaswet after securing only 6,008 votes against the winner's 12,222 for Kween District MP flag bearer.
Meanwhile, several losers in the area have petitioned the NRM electoral commission over irregularities, rigging, ballot stuffing and intimidation.
