Nigeria: Flamingoes Coach Attributes Victory to Hard Work

Peter Dedevbo, the coach of Nigeria's U-17 female team, Flamingoes, attributed their 3-2 victory over World Cup defending champions, North Korea, to hard work.

In a post-match interview on Sunday night, Dedevbo said that the victory over the North Koreans did not come by chance.The coach said that the win would boost their confidence in their remaining two group games against hosts Trinidad and Tobago and Chile. The Nigerian girls take on the hosts on Wednesday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Trinidadians beat Chile 2-1 in Sunday's opening game.Dedevbo's North Korean counterpart, Ri Song Gun, blamed the loss on the injury to one of their players during the pre-match warm-up.

Gun said the changes to their starting line-up after the injury cost them the game.He expressed confidence that they would still qualify from the group.

"We're going to do everything we can to get back to track," the coach added. They face debutants Chile also on Wednesday.Ngozi Okobi shot the Flamingoes ahead just three minutes into the game.

The Asians, who drew level in the 28th minute, doubled their lead in the 58th minute through Kim Su Gyong.But two quick goals within two minutes sank the former champions. Francisca Ordega and Okobi netted the goals in the 77th and 79th minute to earn Nigeria the maximum points.

In other matches played also on Sunday, Germany whitewashed Mexico 9-0 and Korea Republic beat South Africa 3-1.
