Africa: New Champions of ICC Africa

Windhoek — Namibia's Under-19 cricketers confirmed their dominance in the International Cricket Council Africa qualifiers, in Windhoek, on Sunday.

Going into their final match of the 8-nation tourney against Nigeria, the hosts set a very imposing 343 for 6 in their allotted 50 overs. Nigeria failed to bother the Namibians too much and were bowled out for 88.

In a match that would determine the second qualifier, Botswana came up against Kenya at the WAP Oval. Botswana's batting felt the pressure created by superb bowling and could only manage 138 runs.

The incisive bowling by Raj Savala, who took 5 for 19, proved too much for Botswana. By lunch, the Kenyans were attacking the total very aggressively and stood at 58/1 in just 12 overs.

They passed Botswana's total in the 27th over with 8 wickets in hand. With this easy victory the Kenyan side found themselves alone in second place (on 10 points) and will join overall winners Namibia into the next round of the global qualifiers.

At the Wanderers Oval, the nuggety Sierra Leone bowling attack restricted the much-fancied Ugandan side to 138. Sierra Leone's batting took the game to the Ugandans and they ended up only 3 runs short in the 48th over.

Zambia, who accounted for a few surprise wins during the weeklong competition, were bowled out for 118. However, that's where it ended, as the Tanzanians were removed for 36 - giving Zambia a relatively easy win by 82 runs
