Africa: AU, SADC Role in Continent Praised

Luanda — The Egyptian ambassador to Angola, Alaa El-Din M. Kashef, praised Tuesday in Luanda the political and diplomatic commitment of the African Union (AU) and the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) to peaceful settlement of conflicts in the continent.

Speaking to Angop, the ambassador said that armed conflicts and political crises being experienced by some African countries are a great challenges to AU and the international community as they hinder economic and social progress of the nations involved.

He said the political will of all African leaders is also necessary for a common fight against the evil (armed conflict) which continues claiming thousands of lives and holding back the economic progress.

Describing the current situation of the continent, the Egyptian diplomat said his country recently promoted a meeting as a contribute to the search of common policies to promote peace, safety and stability all over Africa, particularly in areas where conflicts still prevail.
