Africa: NEPAD, CBN to Partner On Economic Devt

New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD) has expressed its willingness to partner with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to ensure economic development in the country.

Mr. Goodie Ibru, the Chairman, NEPAD Business Group Nigeria, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Monday that the partnership would help to boost the objectives of NEPAD.

"It is very gratifying to know of our desire to facilitate collaboration between Central Bank of Nigeria and NEPAD Business Group Nigeria in the context of economic development."

He said the collaboration was "particularly in the areas of agriculture, infrastructure and others, all of which are in tandem with our thematic development clusters which we are here to promote with the support of the apex bank".

Ibru applauded the efforts of CBN in setting up intervention funds in the areas of manufacturing, infrastructure, power, and aviation.

According to him, NEPAD will like to complement the efforts of CBN in wealth creation and poverty eradication through the relationship.

"NEPAD Business Group Nigeria intends to partner with important stakeholders, including policy makers in public and private sectors to promote employment generation and capacity building", he added.

He further said that NEPAD would seek collaboration with CBN in specific areas, such as Global Partnership seminar series, AU-NEPAD Global partnership development and International Peer Mentoring programmes. NAN
