Kampala — Soccer governing body FUFA has designed a comprehensive foul-proof strategy that will counter any tricks hosts Kenya might deploy in the build-up to October 9th's make-or-break 2012 Nations Cup qualifier.
As the race to the derby fixture gathers pace, there are already indications that among Kenya's desperate measures of attempting to claim a decent result from the game, is place the Cranes' training base hundreds of miles away from the match-day stadium.
Just last week, the hosts were considering shifting the qualifier to the humid coastal town of Mombasa. "We are not going to fall to any foul games. We have decided to start preparations early enough and that starts with sending an advance team to Nairobi to ensure everything is fine," FUFA boss Lawrence Mulindwa stated yesterday.
"Among the several assignments will be to identify good accommodation, monitor the environment, find a training base and receive the team at the airport," he added.
Ugandan teams have in the past accused their various hosts of foul play. Just in May this year, Cranes local-based side complained before their CHAN second leg qualifier of having been placed in a hotel far from their training ground and official match-day Nyayo Stadium.
Local clubs have also on previous occasions complained of something similar besides being given food with plenty of pepper, and being kept at the airport lobby for long. "We will also send the players' invitation letters by September 15th and tickets much earlier to allow them plan their travels.
Cranes hope to build on their 3-0 impressive routing of Angola with another three crucial points in Nairobi to strengthen their status as table leaders in Group 10 while Kenya are desperate for a win following their defeat away to Guinea Bissau.
According to Mulindwa, Cranes coach Bobby Williamson will also be given the necessary ammunition, including travel support to monitor players he might need for the assignment.
Massa seeks Cranes call
Meanwhile, Sweden-based striker Bryan Massa has shown willigness to join the Cranes. The 18-year-old, turns out for Swedish third division side Rasunda.
The 18-year-old, whose mother is Russian but father Ugandan, has managed 15 goals in 17 appearances so far. He has pace, great dribbler and possesses a thunderous shot.
