A WITNESS yesterday told a Lusaka magistrates court that a British national Kenneth Spooner allegedly promised to give his co-accused person K20 million if she managed to steal his children's passports from their mother's house.
This is in a matter in which Spooner and Febby Siamasamu pleaded not guilty to two counts of conspiracy to commit a felony contrary to the laws of Zambia.
Particulars of the offence are that Spooner and Siamasamu between June 24, 2010 and June 25, 2010 did conspire together to commit a felony, to steal two passports in the names of Devlen Spooner and Carlan Spooner from Zanneta Nyendwa's house, the mother of the children.
Gillien Luvila said she became suspicious of Siamasamu's behaviour when she told her how many things had been stolen because it could only take someone who knew the place very well to know all the details.
Luvila, 30 of Burma Road, told Lusaka Magistrate Fides Hamaundu that Siamasamu allegedly confessed to her that she was the one who stole Devlen and Carlan's passports after Spooner promised to give her K20 million to start her own business.
She said Ms Luvila, who is also a maid at the victims house, said on the material day her boss Ms Nyendwa was out of town and was approached by her workmate Siamasamu who informed her that there was a break-in at Ms Nyendwa's house.
The witness said she then accompanied Siamasamu who started identifying the stolen items in the house and that the stolen items were later found hidden in the pump room by the security guard who wanted to clean the swimming pool.
She said she asked Siamasamu who could have stolen the clothes and later hidden them where she found them and Siamasamu replied that she suspected her former boyfriend Nelson Sichivula.
She said both Siamasamu and Sichivula were later picked by the police and were detained at Longacres Police post and that when she went to visit her in cells she allegedly confessed in presence of her two younger sisters and elder brother that she was the one who stole the said items.
