Rwanda: Senegal Pulls Out of Afrobasket Kagame Cup

Senegal will not take part in the prestigious Afro-basketball U-18 Kagame Cup that is scheduled to run from October 8 -17 at Amahoro indoor stadium due to inadequate resources according to the President of the Federation Baba Tandian.

Tandian was quoted by Fiba Afrique.org saying that they had failed to raise Rwf35m to participate in the ten-day tournament.

"We need 35 million to participate in this championship but we have failed to raise that money so we have decided to withdraw from the competition'," Tandian said.

Senegal, which is coached by Keletigui Diané, had earned an automatic slot in the event after finishing third in 2008.

Senegal's withdrawal now leaves eleven teams in contention namely; defending champions Egypt, Algeria, Tunisia, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Mali, Angola, Zimbabwe, Gabon, Congo Brazzaville and hosts Rwanda.

Tunisia recently concluded a training camp in Istanbul. The camp was aimed at fine - tuning the team ahead of the Kigali showpiece.

Meanwhile, Rwanda's U-18 team continued their preparation with a resounding 71-53 win over Kigali Institute of Education (KIE).

One of the team's assistant coaches Moise Mutokambali told Times Sport that the boys had now embarked on two daily sessions.
