Uganda: Software Developer Nominated for Global Awards

Kampala — Mr Revence Kalibwani the proprietor of Scyfy Technoloies, a local information and technology start-up is set to represent Uganda at the 2010 Annual Peer Awards in Finland. The awards are given to the world's best software developers in recognition of their innovative mobile telecommunication applications and products.

During the awards, nominees like Mr Kalibwani are given an opportunity to showcase their software applications to global investors and mobile telecommunication experts.

The awards are an initiative of Mobile Monday (MoMo) Global, the international association for mobile professionals, and visionaries with a presence in more than 100 cities. This year's awards will take place on September 27 in Helsinki, Finland.

Mr Kalibwani a 25-year old self-taught software developer got the nod to represent Uganda at the prestigious awards after emerging the winner of a mobile telecommunication software competition organised by Mobile Monday in Kampala last Wednesday.

The software developer's mobile application called Loan Call System beat eight other entries from companies like; Uganda Telecom, and several by students of Makerere University, according to Daniel Stern, the Lead Organiser of Mobile Monday Kampala.

Mr Kalibwani said the Loan Call System is designed to make it possible for mobile phone users who run out of airtime while making calls, to get temporary airtime loans from telecom companies.
