Windhoek — The Old Wheelers Club of Namibia has announced that it will hold the "Day of the Old Wheeler", and "cordially invites the public at large" with an interest in old/vintage cars to the premier event on Saturday, September 11, 2010.
The event, where the public will be able to take a long, hard look at "period cars" from a bygone era, will start at 11h00 until "shortly after sunset", according to a statement released by the club. The statement adds that the event will be held at the club's grounds located off Stadium Road (Suiderhof), opposite the turnoff to the Safari Hotel and Conference Centre.
The theme for this year's day is: "Never too old to have fun".
On show will be restored classic cars, motorcycles, and a "squadron" of vintage sports cars, each with their own unique "pedigree & history". An Information Tent will further provide items for sale, including T-shirts, club caps, licence discs and stickers for the enthusiasts, apart from advising prospective club members.
There will also be a raffle draw, where the winner will drive off in a 1972 Jaguar XJ6 (4.2 litre), in good running condition during late afternoon. Raffle tickets will be on sale for N$50 each during the day.
Attractions include: A "jumping castle" for young people, including an "exciting quiz" for the kiddies, beer tent, refreshing beverages and traditional "fest" meals, all at reasonable prices. Music by "Two of a Kind" will set the scene for good, wholesome entertainment. Extras include: adequate ablution facilities and mobile security service in the public parking area. The NBC "German Service" will be on site for an "interactive presentation" and regular event updates from 10h00 until 13h00.
Get ready and bring your "mobile collectors' item" to the "Day of the Old Wheeler", compare notes with other enthusiasts and simply enjoy yourself," concludes the statement.
The Day of the Old wheeler is sponsored exclusively for many years by Standard Bank Namibia Vehicle & Asset Finance, with additional support provided for the very first time by Standard Insurance Brokers Namibia.
